First Division Round-Up: Bray continue title charge with win in Cobh while Longford get back to winning ways as Galway secure late, late win at Stradbrook

As expected, it was a dramatic night of action in the First Division as Bray Wanderers continued their title charge with a win away to Cobh Ramblers.

Goals from Joe Doyle and club captain Aaron Barry gave the Seagulls three points in East Cork while Charlie Lyons provided the consolation for the Ramblers.

The full-time whistle put Gary Cronin’s side five points clear at the summit of the First Division table with five games left for the Seagulls.

Longford Town had to come from behind to record victory over fellow promotion chasers UCD at Bishopsgate on Monday night.

The Students had taken the lead in first half stoppage time, but Town produced a strong second half display to claim all three points with goals from Shane Elworthy, Sam Verdon and Rob Manley.

There was late drama at Stradbrook as John Caulfield’s Galway United grabbed a 99th minute winner over Cabinteely.

Stephen Christopher’s free-kick looped into the top corner of the Cabinteely goal to move Galway to within three points of Pat Devlin’s charges.

Meanwhile, Athlone Town secured back to back wins with a one-nil win away to Wexford at Ferrycarrig Park.

Jack Reynolds’ 65th minute winner was the difference between the sides as Athlone moved further away from the bottom position of the First Division table.
