Shamrock Rovers -v- AC Milan - Where can I watch it and what do I need to know?

In the week that marks a calendar year since Shamrock Rovers' last competitive defeat, they face their biggest test to keep that record going when they welcome the seven-time European Cup winners AC Milan to Tallaght.

It is ten years since Rovers last played a Serie A side in Europe when Juventus came to Tallaght in the same season that this week’s visitor’s AC Milan would win the last of their 18 Serie A titles.

Back in 2010, Juventus won 2-0 in Tallaght and 1-0 in monsoon like conditions in Modena - both Alan Mannus and Stephen Bradley played in that match. That season both Rovers and Milan (2010/11) won the league title - the last time both clubs did so.

In domestic action, the Hoops have not conceded a goal in their last five games. Milan have played four pre-season friendlies and won them all.

The game promises to be an unforgettable occasion at Tallaght Stadium, and here are just some of the details you need to know ahead of tonight’s showdown in Dublin 24.

Who should I watch out for?

The clash between AC Milan and Shamrock Rovers is expected to have a number of internationals grace the pristine Tallaght Stadium surface.

For Rovers, all eyes will, as expected, be on Jack Byrne and Graham Burke. Burke scored in the Hoops’ first-round qualifier against Finnish side Ilves Tampere last time out while Byrne scored from the spot in a gripping shootout that very few saw live.

Meanwhile, Gary O’Neill and Aaron McEneff are both expected to play key roles in the middle of the park in the absence of Greg Bolger.

For the Rossoneri, a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to lead the line for Stefan Pioli’s side who will be unable to call upon the services of Croatian forward Ante Rebic.

Ibrahimovic recently extended his stay at the San Siro by a further year, and he is expected to star at Tallaght Stadium alongside new recruits Brahim Diaz and Sergio Tonali.

Team news:

Liam Scales is suspended for the Hoops while Sean Kavanagh is rated as a doubt for Stephen Bradley’s side.

For this match Milan manager Stefano Pioli is without Crotian striker Ante Rebic who is suspended, while Alessio Romagnoli also misses out through injury.
