'We've played really well since we've come back, and we just want to keep at that level' - UCD boss Andy Myler hoping for consistency as the Students begin to show their potential

UCD boss Andy Myler admits that he is hoping that his young side can continue their consistent form since returning from the forced League of Ireland break.

Since returning, UCD have climbed up into 4th position in the First Division table, winning three of their previous five games.

The win over Cabinteely on Friday evening saw the Students leapfrog Longford Town – and they remain in the same position in the table following Cobh’s win over Daire Doyle’s side on Saturday evening.

“We’re really happy with where we’re going in at the moment,” Myler told extratime.com after his side’s win on Friday evening.

“The boys are learning in each game and picking things up as we go along. Outside of that forty-five minutes up in Drogheda we are perfectly happy with how we’ve been playing.

“From second to fifth there’s not much in it. We’re all chasing Cabo and they won’t be happy with tonight, but we’ll have to keep chasing them.”

Myler also took encouragement that his two strikers Yoyo Mahdy and Colm Whelan combined to net all three goals on Friday evening against what is usually a watertight Cabo defence.

“The two boys play well together, and I think they were playing each other in all night and combined really well.

“That interchange between the strikers is something that I was really please with and it’s good to see the two lads both score.”

He added: “It’s really important and Yoyo would be the first to tell you that it’s the guys behind him playing so well is the reason why the boys are doing really well.

“We need to concentrate on that and if we’re not creating chances the two boys won’t score. It’s just part of the bigger picture and we’ll focus on that.”

After suffering relegation last year, UCD have once again had to rebuild their squad, and despite their inexperience, Myler is hoping that his side can continue to compete consistently.

“A realistic target for this group is to keep staying competitive and try and stay as high up the table as we can,” the former Shamrock Rovers striker noted.

“I keep on saying the boring answer but (the challenge) for us is to try and stay up there. Young players can typically have a problem with consistency but that’s the challenge.

“The challenge is can we be consistent, and can we find our level with that that consistency? We’ve played really well since we’ve come back, and we just want to keep at that level.”
