Wexford snap up former Hearts defender Jay Nwanze ahead of First Division run-in

First Division Wexford have confirmed the signing of former Hearts defender Jay Nwanze ahead of the First Division run-in.

19-year-old Nwanze joins up with Slaneysiders following the departure of previous on-loan defender Paul Cleary.

Nwanze was in line to make his Wexford debut last week, although the transfer did not go through in time to make the FAI deadline.

He now becomes the third player to join the club in the past week – along with Jack Doherty and Ola Adeyemo.

Manager Brian O’Sullivan said on the arrival of his new central defender: “He works hard at training and keeps his head down and listens.

“It’s great for him and James [Carroll] having David Breen at the club.  They're two lads who listen and want to learn which is great for us.

“Jay is really good coming out from the back with the ball, he has really impressed us.  He was unlucky in Scotland with injuries so hopefully his luck changes playing for us.

“He has slotted in the vacant position really well and is a big boost for us having come on board.”

Wexford resume their First Division campaign on Friday evening with a home tie against league leaders Cabinteely.
