Cristiano Ronaldo donates equipment to Portuguese Hospitals

Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent Jorge Mendes have helped fund three intensive care Units in Portuguese hospitals. 

The Juventus forward and agent Mendes have funded two wards in Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon and one in Santo Antonio in Porto.

The donation is reported to be £1million and will see each wing will totally equipped and will have the capacity for 10 beds. 

Mendes has already purchased 200,000 medical gowns and three ventilators. In the next few days, he will purchase and donate 50,000 masks. 

"We want to thank Ronaldo and Mendes for the initiative, which is so useful at the time the country needs everyone so much,” Paulo Barbosa, president of Santo Antonio’s administrative council, said in a statement.

He added, "The units will be equipped with the charitable contribution of Mendes and Ronaldo. This equipment includes beds, ventilators, heart monitors, pumps and infusion syringes, essential equipment in the care of critically ill patients with COVID-19". 

As of March 24th, Portugal had 2,060 confirmed coronavirus cases with 23 deaths. Portugal declared a state of emergency last Thursday.

Ronaldo is currently back in Madeira having returned to his native Portugal after his mother Dolores suffered a stroke.

He has been self-isolating after a number of his Juventus team-mates tested positive for the virus including Argentine star Paulo Dybala.
