Dundalk chief executive Mal Brannigan departs after just a year in the job

Dundalk have confirmed the departure of chief executive Mal Brannigan after just a year at the helm of the Oriel Park club.

The former Sheffield United managing director has left the club ‘to pursue other opportunities,’ according to a brief statement issued by the club on Thursday evening.

Englishman Brannigan was installed as CEO by investment group Peak6 following their takeover of the club in January of last year.

Brannigan, who has also worked with Everton, Hull City and Derby County, presided over a period of success on the field as Stephen Kenny’s side won the league and cup double for a second time.

Kenny departed to take over the winter to take up the Ireland under-21 job, however, while the club recently announced Fyffes would return as title sponsors after initially going separate ways.

Meanwhile, there have so far been no announcements in relation to improving the club's facilities at Oriel Park over the 12 months.

“Dundalk Football Club can confirm that Chief Executive, Mal Brannigan, is leaving the club to pursue other opportunities,” read the club statement.

“The appointment of a new Chief Executive will be made in due course.

“The board wish to thank Mal for his efforts during his time at the club.

“No further comment will be made at this time.”
