Drennan and Miele join the Saints as Maher re-signs until 2020

Former Shamrock Rovers duo Mikey Drennan and Brandon Miele have joined St. Patrick’s Athletic as Harry Kenny looks to improve the Saints for the upcoming 2019 campaign.

In addition, Irish Underage International Brian Maher re-signs for the club where he will look to compete with Brendan Clarke and Barry Murphy for a spot between the sticks at the Inchicore based outfit.

Drennan, once of Aston Villa joins the Saints following an encouraging return to competitive football at Sligo Rovers during the latter stages of the 2018 Premier Division season.

Prior to that he had taken a break from the professional game having spent the 2015 and part of the 2016 season with Shamrock Rovers – scoring 12 goals in 37 league appearances.

Last season in Sligo the 24-year-old scored nine goals in 17 games for the Bit O’Red.

However, the Kilkenny man’s efforts were not enough to keep former manager Gerard Lyttle in a job, with the former Cliftonville boss being replaced by the former Pats manager Liam Buckley in October.

Brandon Miele also joins forces with the Emmett Road side following a four season stint at Tallaght Stadium with Shamrock Rovers after he conclude a stint with Newcastle United

While at Rovers, Miele made 113 league appearances scoring 32 times – he made 26 league appearances for the Hoops last season but 11 of them came off the bench.

“They’re top quality players, both of them,” said St Pat’s manager Harry Kenny about the duo

“They’ve both had decent career up to now. I’m very surprised they were available, and we’re really thrilled to get the two of them in.”

Also being announced by St. Patrick’s Athletic is the prodigious goalkeeping talent of Brian Maher.

Maher, an Irish Under-19 International, joins an already strong Pats side with the likes of James Doona, Dean Clarke and Ian Bermingham all re-signing from last year’s side at Richmond Park.

Having been at the club since he was 15, the young Dublin native noted his delight after signing for Pats for the coming two seasons.

“I’m buzzing to get the deal done finally,” Maher revealed.

“I’m just delighted to get the deal done and hopefully I can push on into the first-team in the next few years.”
