Shels Not Getting Carried Away

Shelbourne chairman Joe Casey refuses to get carried away with his sides table topping season so far.

“The table is looking well,” said Casey, following last week's victory away at second placed UCD. “We played very well in the first half. We bullied them in truth. They play very good football. Their best player [Ronan Finn] got sent off, which helped. He deserved to go.”

Following Sporting Fingal’s victory over Monaghan United last week, Shelbourne are again faced with playing the side just below them, after Fingal leapfrogged UCD in the table. Shels' are four clear at the top, with a game in hand away at Ballybofey to be played in August, so things are looking good for the Tolka Park outfit.

“I would take a draw right now, just to keep the gap there,” said Casey of the game. “The score against Mervue helped our goal difference. But Sporting Fingal have to play Mervue yet so who knows.”

“I’m not getting too excited - just like I didn’t get too downbeat when we dropped to fourth a few weeks back,” he added.
