Ian Morris: 'We've a pain in our backside coming out of the changing room and saying how well we've played'

Bohemians defender Ian Morris has cautioned that his team's positive on-field performances will mean little if they can't begin to convert them into points.

Morris saw his side defeat 2-0 by champions Cork City at Dalymount Park last Friday despite enjoying the lion's share of possession and the majority of goalscoring attempts.

Midfielder Keith Ward warned in the aftermath of the Dublin Derby win over Shamrock Rovers that they can't simply be a team who turn up for three games a season.

Bohs have won just three times this season – twice against Rovers – and defeats since against Derry City and Cork have seen them slip five points behind tonight's opponents St Patrick's Athletic (preview).

“It's frustrating keeping on coming out and talking like this,” Morris said.

“In the changing room, we've a pain in our backside now coming out and saying how well we've played.

“It's not going to matter in two weeks time when everyone looks at the results, and looks at the points on the board.

“You can play as well as you like but if you're not winning games, it doesn't mean anything.”

Bohs played most of the football last week but fell behind to what Morris describes as a 'fluke' from City full-back Colm Horgan.

The former Galway United man was allowed far too much space to cut in on his weaker left foot and curl in a cross that eluded both City striker Graham Cummins and Bohs keeper Shane Supple.

The visitors defended deep and invited pressure from the Gypsies, who had several efforts from distance from Eoghan Stokes and the excellent Dylan Watts.

And they got their reward midway through the second half when a quick throw from substitute Kieran Sadlier sent Cummins free, and the former St Johnstone striker finished sublimely.

“They sat in and we found it difficult to break them down,” Morris added.

“Unfortunately we're giving away silly goals at the back and not scoring at the other end, and that's a combination you can't have.

“It's usually one or the other, but we're having both at this moment in time. It's very frustrating. Heads are a little bit dropped at the minute.

“Everyone keeps saying how well we're playing but the shots we're hitting are not going in, and everything everyone else is hitting is going in.

“With what we have, and what we've shown performance-wise, we deserve to be a lot higher, but you don't deserve anything, it's what you put on the board points-wise.”
