O'Shea to remain at Galway

Galway United have announced that key midfielder Jay O’Shea will remain at the club for another season after his proposed move to Derby County was called off, while the Tribesmen have also signed goalkeeper Barry Ryan from Saint Patrick's Athletic.

20-year-old O'Shea was expected to move to Derby after both clubs agreed a fee before Christmas and the player himself agreed personal terms. However, the Rams have told O'Shea that due to a deterioration in the financial situation at the club, they are now unable to complete the signing. Galway CEO Nick Leeson said that while he is disappointed for the player, it is great for United that he will be back at Terryland Park for the new season.

The Irish under-21 International will rejoin his colleagues for pre-season training as he bids to continue the superb form that he displayed last season. “It is a disappointment that the transfer did not work out," said O'Shea, "but, at this stage, all I want to do is get back playing football. I had a great season with Galway last year and all attention now turns to making a solid start to the new season and move on from there."

Meanwhile, Galway have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Barry Ryan from St. Pat's, after Gary Rogers moved in the opposite direction yesterday. Manager Ian Foster said that the signing of the experienced Ryan was another significant move for the club. “Barry is a top class 'keeper and he is an important signing as we continue to build the side for the new season,” said Foster.
