League of Ireland First Division club Monaghan United have added strikers David Freeman and Karl Bermingham to their squad for the coming season. Both players were involved in last season's promotion race as Freeman signs from Shelbourne while Bermingham arrives from Waterford United. The pair join centre-half Alan Byrne, another ex-Shels player, as new recruits at Kingspan Century Park.

Monaghan have also re-signed ten players from last season's squad which finished sixth in the second tier. Brendan Kennedy, Paul Whelan, Barry Clancy, Aaron Mooney, Brian Gartland, Stephen McCrossan, Cathal O’Connor, Don Tierney, Sean Brennan and Darragh Hanaphy have all agreed new one-year deals.

To add to that, three of Monaghan's under-20s from last year, Aaron McCarey, Seamus Quigley and Niall Flynn, have joined the first-team. As he aims to complete his squad for the new season, Cooke is also looking at a number of other players.
