First Division fixtures announced

Newly formed Galway FC will welcome Longford Town to Eamonn Deacy Park for their first game in the League of Ireland, with the fixtures having been announced today.

Tommy Dunne's side will face last season's runners-up in a mouth-watering tie, with Tony Cousins' side having secured several high-profile signings, including Stephen Rice from Shamrock Rovers.

Relegated from the Premier Division last season, Shelbourne will open their campaign with a home tie against Wexford Youths. Johnny McDonnell will undoubtedly have his side well drilled to face an improving Youths side, who have managed to secure the signing of Cork City striker Danny Furlong.

Finn Harps, under new manager Ollie Horgan, will welcome Waterford United to Ballybofey in what is a reverse of last season's opener. Harps have been adding steadily to their squad, and Horgan will be hoping for a positive start in front of a home crowd.

At the opposite end of the country, Cobh Ramblers will entertain Shamrock Rovers' second side at St Colman's Park. There will be a lot of attention on the Tallaght side, and undoubtedly, there will be eyebrows raised each week seeing which players will appear for the club's First Division side.

All games will take place on Friday 7 March, except for Cobh Ramblers and Shamrock Rovers, which will take place on Saturday 8 March.
