WATERFORD UNITED

Three points are vital for Waterford United this weekend as they continue their promotion push. The Blues sit second alongside Longford Town on 44 points, just one point behind Mervue United.

Last weekend The Blues suffered a setback after a 1-0 defeat to Athlone Town, a defeat that saw Roddy Collins’ side crowned champions. Philly Gorman’s first half penalty was enough to down the Blues.

But their destiny remains in their own hands. The Blues have two league games to ensure they remain in the top three and to keep themselves in with a shout of getting a chance to go one better than last season.

Michael Coady is out for the rest of the season, while player-coach John Frost remains doubtful. Ben Ryan misses the game through suspension.

"We have two massive games ahead now against Salthill Devon and Cobh Ramblers,” Blues coach David Breen said. “We must win the two of them to be sure of a play-off. It's a simple as that. I think it's important that we remain focused on what we have to do, and that's win."

SALTHILL DEVON

Salthill Devon come into the game with nothing but pride to play for in their last two games. With Devon unable to catch the second from bottom team, six points from their final games will be a positive.

Devon last won at the end of July and will be eager to finish the season on a high, but their last seven games have ended in defeat.

Their three games against Waterford United bring little in the way of encouragement though, with three defeats against the Blues this season.

The Galway side ran the Blues close in their meeting in the RSC this season in June, with Devon forcing the home side to come from behind, and Enda Curran’s last gasp header dropping just wide to grab a share of the spoils.
