Longford Town -v- Cobh Ramblers

LONGFORD TOWN

The Midlanders are eight points off leaders Athlone Town with just four games remaining and with Roddy Collins’ side travelling to basement side Salthill Devon on Friday night, Athlone look certain to win the First Division.

However, Tony Cousins will be hopeful his side can finish the season strongly, especially with fourth-placed Mervue United lurking just four points behind his side and Waterford United-both on 41 points- with Longford claiming second position thanks to a superior goal difference.

When they met at the City Calling Stadium in May, Longford ran out easy 5-1 winners, but the last meeting saw Ramblers come back from a three goal deficit to win 4-3 at St. Colman’s Park.

That loss put a major dent in Longford’s title hopes and since then they have only picked up seven points from a possible 21, hardly title-winning form.

COBH RAMBLERS

Cobh Ramblers lie second from bottom but are just five points behind fifth-placed Wexford Youths and Dave Hill’s side will be keen to end their first season back in the league on a high.

Hill’s preparations for Saturday night’s game have been hampered by his side’s indiscipline as four players will be missing through suspension - John Meade, Roy Kenny, Eoin Hastings and Brendan Frahill.

Former Cork City striker Davin O’Neill should be back in the team after missing the 1-0 loss to Athlone last week.
