Jack Wilshere backs Tracy as FIFA 14 Cover Promotion hots up

It’s good to have friends in high places and Limerick FC midfielder Shane Tracy knew that all too well on Saturday last when the campaign to get his face on the front of FIFA 14 was boosted with Jack Wilshere pledging his support for the former Arsenal schoolboy.

The twist wasn’t entirely unexpected to Tracy with Shane explaining the link that he still has with the club.

“My sister Yvonne, she plays with Arsenal and works at the training ground, she was saying to me that she would get some of the lads to tweet to really get behind me but to be honest I didn’t think Jack would tweet.”

Tracy left Arsenal in 2007 to join Galway United but the Limerick native is very happy to be with his home team and also happy that the league is getting more recognition.

“Yeah it’s great for the league as the reputation had taken a bit of battering but it’s starting to improve a good bit and you can even see in the town that the support is coming back to the club.”

The debate over the last few weeks within Irish circles has been the issue of football fans supporting teams abroad rather than at home. Tracy doesn’t feel it’s a stick to beat people with.

“The Premier League has got some of the best players in the world and people want to watch quality football so it’s not something they should feel bad about.

“It’s up to us in the League of Ireland to improve and show people why they should be paying the €10, €15 to come watch us.”
