Molloy pleased with a point

Derry City captain Barry Molloy was happy to come away with a point from Inchicore after Friday night's 1-1 draw away to Saint Patricks Athletic, even if he wasn't completely happy with his side's performance.

“We know we can do better. We are disappointed with the goal. They are a very good side and they had a lot of possession. I think we dug in and defended for our lives. It is a tough place to come and we are pleased overall with the point.”

Derry goalkeeper Ger Doherty made a number of outstanding saves and Molloy was quick to praise his team mate.

“It just shows you the importance of having a good goalkeeper. In my opinion he is the best goalkeeper in the league. He is outstanding in general and tonight he made two very important saves in the second half.”

After 10 games Derry are second in the league, and while Molloy is happy with his team's start to the season, he is not getting carried away.

“It's a great start for us. I think we would have taken that at the start of the season. Obviously tonight's result keeps Pats behind us as well. We are delighted with our start but it is only the start. We can't get carried away with ourselves. We just have to look to the

next game against Limerick. It's going to be another tough game but it's one we feel we can  get maximum points from.”

The Derry captain does believe that his side can reach another level.

“We know what we are capable of and we know we can lift it from tonight. I think we need to stick together and we need to dig in. The character in the group is very good and people are really putting their bodies on the line for each other and that's a good start but

that's all it is. We  just need to maintain that and try and be more consistent.”
