Gallagher finds it tough to sum up
Finn Harps manager James Gallagher was left scratching his head despite seeing his side pick up a home win over Salthill Devon on Friday night.
Gallagher’s team won 3-2 but there were some serious flaws in the performance against the Galway team who have been rooted to the foot of the table all season, but in the end Harps did enough to grab the points after Chris Breen scored the winner with a quarter of an hour left.
“It’s a hard game to sum up with so many players off colour,” he said. “There’s a mixed bag with a bit of everything in it. Strangely, a couple of goal-line clearances went our way and we haven’t had any all season and then we get two in the one game. By all accounts I think both were over the line. But it was a strange night with a strange performance.
“We were hoping to bounce back after losing to Longford last week and although we got the three points we haven’t bounced back the way that we would’ve liked to. Every time we played Salthill this season we’ve struggled. We struggled here on the second game of the season and we robbed them down there. We made it easy for Salthill and they cut us open at times.
The Ballybofey side now have a huge fixture to look forward to next Friday when Sligo Rovers visit Finn Park in the FAI Cup last 16. It’ll be the first ever meeting of the two sides in the competition.
“Sligo is the biggest game of our season and hopefully with a little bit of luck and a good performance and an improvement we might be able to catch them on the hop.”
