The former Dundalk captain has signed a new contract with the NIFL Premiership side having joined the club in 2021.

Shields current deal was up at the end of this season, but he has now agreed terms to extend his deal for another two years which will keep him at The Blues until 2026.

Linfield released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) about the news stating, “Linfield are delighted to announce that Chris Shields has signed a new contract with the club, keeping him at Windsor Park for a further 2 years.”

The 33-year-old has made 112 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals, with his performances have seen him gone on to become a fans favourite.

The Dubliner has enjoyed success since arriving at Linfield, as he was a part of the Blues side that won the 2021/22 NIFL Premiership.

On top of that, he won individual awards such as Ulster Footballer of the Year, NIFWA Player of the Year, and Linfield’s Player of the Year the same year as the club’s title success.

Shields is currently out injured since December, which Linfield boss David Healy described at the time as a ‘huge blow’.

Elsewhere in the NIFL, David Odumosu has extended his loan with Cliftonville until the end of the season.
