Shamrock Rovers have announced the signing of Darragh Burns on a season-long loan from League Two side MK Dons.

The 21-year-old winger makes the move to Tallaght in search of game time having made just 14 league appearances for the Dons since joining in July 2022 from St Patrick’s Athletic.

Hoops head coach Stephen Bradley spoke to shamrockrovers.ie on the back of his new acquisition as his side goes in search of a ground-breaking five consecutive league titles.

“Darragh is one that we’ve always liked and we tried to sign him before he moved to England. We feel he has different attributes to what we already have in the attacking part of the pitch,” he said.

“We’re delighted to get him in and get started. I’ve been speaking to Darragh regularly for some time and he’s eager to get back playing and show everyone what he’s about and hopefully, we can help him do that.”

Burns rose through the ranks at St Pats making his first team debut aged just 16 in a friendly against Chelsea. He went on to make over 50 league appearances for the Saints across two and a half seasons.

He won the club's Young Player of the Year award in 2021 followed by a man-of-the-match performance in the FAI Cup final that same year.
