Eugene’s Biography

Eugene began his league career with Shamrock Rovers in 1972 and he scored four league goals in his debut season. He spent two years with the Hoops before a wage dispute in August 1974 saw Eugene given a free release from the club.

Within days of his Rovers release, Eugene had joined up with Athlone Town and he went on to hit 9 league goals for the Midlands side in 1974/75, topping the club's scoring chart. He remained a regular scorer for Athlone over the next 6 seasons, hitting a total of 49 league goals between 1974 and 1980, but in 1980/81 he excelled himself, banging in 23 league goals as Athlone lifted their first ever League title under manager Turlough O'Connor.

Eugene spent one more season at Athlone, scoring 6 times in the 1981/82 league campaign before signing for St Patrick's Athletic at the start of 1982/83. While his former teammates were winning their second League title Eugene hit 13 league goals for Pats in his first season there, the club finishing 7th in the table.

He scored another 10 league goals the following season and in his third year at Pats he managed just one, moving to UCD in May of '85 when he scored on his debut v Waterford United. He played in UCD's last six league games and scored five times but at the end of the season he moved on again, this time signing for Bohemians in August of 1985.

Eugene spent just eighteen months at Bohemians scoring eight league goals and adding four more in Cup competition in 85/86. But his game time was limited the following season and in December of 1986 he left Dalymount Park to sign for Bray Wanderers.

Eugene spent three seasons with Bray before bringing the curtain down his football career in the summer of 1989.
