John’s Biography
John was a centre back who joined Shelbourne from Junior football in the Summer of 1979 and played with the Reds for two seasons until the summer of 1981. During his second season with Shels he was joined in the squad by another John Cleary, often referred to as 'Jnr'.
In September of '81 he crossed the city to sign for Charlie Walker at St Patrick's Athletic, joining JC Jnr who had made the same move a month beforehand. Pats dropped the 'Senior' and 'Junior' tags, referring to John as 'John M Cleary'
John left Pats in the latter half of that 1981/82 season and joined Colepark United.
