Michael is a full back who has represented the Irish Universities side. He spent some time in the youth system at Cork City and played with MSL side UCC for two years, captaining their Collingwood Cup winning side in 2010.. He signed for Johnny Glynn at Mervue United in January 2012. Michael made his league debut in a 4-3 defeat away to Finn Harps on 10 March 2012 and over the next two seasons he made 35 league appearances for the Galway club

On 10 July 2014 Cork City announced that they had signed Michael for the second half of their Premier Division campaign, reuniting him with his former boss at UCC, John Caulfield. Michael first appeared in a City shirt in a friendly against Birmingham City on 8 July 2014 and made his league debut for the Rebels in a 2-1 win over UCD at Turner's Cross ten days later. He went on to make 7 league appearances as City finished second to Dundalk in the 2014 Premier Division table.

Michael stayed with the Rebels for 2015 when he made 13 league appearances as Cork finished runners-up to Dundalk and in 2016 he added 14 more league appearances to his career total as City, yet again, finished second in the league behind Dundalk.
