FAI CUP - Cork City 6 - 0 St Mochtas

Cork City are through to the last 16 of the FAI Ford Cup, thanks to a 6-0 victory over non-league side St Mochta’s at Turner’s Cross.
It was a game that Cork were in control of from start to finish. Cork went with a strong starting eleven. City’s attacking play and quick passing proved too much for the side from the Leinster Senior League.
City went ahead after four minutes. In what was almost an exact copy of the winning goal against Athlone the week previous, Brian Lenihan got the ball after some poor play from Mochta’s. He then looked up and crossed the ball into the box from the left hand side and there was Mark O’Sullivan to head the ball into the back of the net.
John Caulfield’s side doubled their lead on 25 minutes. Dave O’Leary went down the left wing and he played in Billy Dennehy and he drilled a shot past Fee in the Mochta’s goal. It was a decent finish and one which Dennehy gave the keeper no chance of saving.
The Rebel Army went 3-0 up on 30 mins through Rob Lehane’s well taken header. It came about after some good play in the buildup play, the ball was eventually crossed in by Turner and Lehane did the rest.
By this point, City were playing with a real verve to their game. They looked like a side that meant business.
Billy Dennehy then got City’s fourth, just before the break, after some poor defending from St Mochta’s from a City cross from Turner in from the right allowed Dennehy to get in at the back post and he slotted the ball into the net for his second of the night. The Tralee man is showing no signs of letting up when it comes to putting the ball in the back of the net.
One of the highlights for Cork fans on the night was when Danny Morrissey came on in the second half. He was back to what he did best last season on 50 minutes after he buried the ball into the back of the net from a Lehane cross. The return of Morrissey is sure to be a welcome boost for Caulfield, as he looks to strengthen his options up front.
Ian Turner got City’s sixth goal, when he shot from long range. The ball went underneath Fee in the Saints goal, a moment he probably won’t want to see back again.
St Mochta’s brought a great crowd down with them and regardless of what happened tonight, they were extremely proud of what the side has done during the season in Leinster.
But overall, it was a comfortable night’s work in the end for City, but they will be delighted to overcome tonight’s game without any major problems. Cork City will be among the main contenders for the FAI Ford Cup. If they are in this vein of form, they will be a match for anyone who they come up against.
