John’s Biography

John played Leinster Senior League football with CIE Ranch and Ballyfermot United before signing for Shelbourne in November 1980. He spent the rest of the 80/81 season with the Reds but continued to play for Ballyfermot in their FAI Cup matches, scoring against Cork United in the Fourth Round.

He then moved across the city to join St Patrick's Athletic in August 1981. He spent three seasons with St Pats before signing for Tommy Connolly at Dundalk in the summer of 1984, spending just one season at Oriel Park before switching back to St Pats ahead of the 1985/86 season. Two more seasons followed with the Saints and in 1987 he was again signed by Dundalk.

John won a League and Cup double with Dundalk in 1988 and played for three seasons in his second spell at Oriel Park. In November 1990 he moved on, doing newly appointed manager Joey Malone at Galway United. This brought John a second FAI Cup winner's medal in 1991. He spent two seasons at terryland Park and left Galway at the end of 1991/92.
