Adam is a winger who came through the ranks at Leinster Senior League side Arklow Town, playing in their U18 squad which won the LFA Youths Cup in 2010. He signed for Bray Wanderers in January 2012 and made his debut in the Setanta Cup defeat to Glentoran on 12 March. He made 24 league appearances for the Seagulls but left at the end of the season, signing for Alan Matthews at Shelbourne on 3 December 2012.

Adam spent one season at Shels, playing under two managers; Alan Mathews and then Johnny McDonnell, where he scored twice in 26 league appearances. But in January 2014 he moved back to Bray where Alan Mathews had assumed the managerial reins ahead of the 2014 season. He made 23 league appearances that season, scoring three times in the league as Bray finished tenth in the Premier Division table. Adam's 2015 season was constantly interrupted by injuries but he still made 19 appearances in the league, scoring twice in wins over Limerick and Derry City, as Bray finished eighth in the Premier Division.

Adam left Bray at the end of the 2015 season and joined Ollie Horgan's Finn Harps in February 2016. He scored once in 28 league appearances that year as Harps retained their Premier Division status with a tenth place league finish. He left Harps at the end of 2016 to join newly relegated Wexford FC where he scored once in 15 league appearances before leaving the club at the end of 2017.

Adam is a former Republic of Ireland U18 international.
