A stronger and more experienced Shelbourne team have dealt fairly comfortably with the challenge posed by a more youthful Cork City team.
The absence of many of their central defenders through injury and suspension has cost them dearly as they were bady exposed in that area for both of the goals conceded.
Shels showed why they have been runaway leaders of the First Division all season with a fairly commanding performance even though they did not really need to hit fifth gear at any stage tonight.
Its a setback for City as their already faint hopes of making a top four slot have now dimimshed following this reverse.

City campled in the Shels half but their attempts on goal are becoming increasingly frantic and time is now running out for them
City take off a defender Holland and go with an extra attacker in Kennedy in an attempt to at least score one goal
Shels now are sitting back seemingly content with their two nil lead. City have 15 mins to try get something from the game,
Poynton down injured after taking a ball to the chest, after some attention he is back on the pitch
Shels free kick intio the box falls to the feet of the nornmally sharp O' Connor but he scuffs the shot wide, that would have been it for City had it gone in.
Good move ny City sees Bargarry whip in a cross and Coffey almost gets a touch to it but it ends up going wide, thats better from the home side
City have a corner, they need to make something of it if they are to get back into the game, their short corner routine does not work and Shels clear their lines
Penalty to Shels, O' Connor is brought down after one of the central defenders allows the ball to run past him
Great run by Murphy, he outpaces the Shels defence but there is nobody to take advantage of his cross.
Shelbourne just about deserve their slender lead at half time, they took advantage of early City nervousness to score a relatively easy goal but since then they have not really threatened and the home side have had a few sporadic attacks with looking particularly threatening.
As we approach half time , the game has become scrappy.
Free Kick to Shels just close to the right corner flag, poor effort by Poynton but they manage to win a corner from it, it comes to nothing though
City trying to mount a few attacks but the Shels defence are dealing with everything so far
A fairly even game after 30 mins, Shels still seem to be comfortable with what City are throwing at them so far while O Connor and El Neyah look sharp when they get the ball up front for the visitors

El Neyah is causing trouble for City left back Dale Holland and he draws another free kick for Shels but Farrell blasts it wide
City have come back into the game after a somewhat nervous start
First corner for City won by Murphy after a good ball by Coffey. however its cleared by Shels
A calamity at the back from City's perspective, a long ball from the left wing is headed across the box by Farrell and arrives at the feet of Brennan who has loads of time to stab the ball past McNulty
Well worked free kick by Shels almost sees Farrell score , his shot skims across the goal and goes wide
Most of the early pressure coming from Shels who are testing City's very makeshift cenre half partnership of Alex Byrne and Darragh Crowley.
McGlade cuts through and plays a good ball to Bargarry but he over runs it and it goes wide
