The Republic of Ireland got the job done in style when they hit Gibraltar for seven at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday afternoon. An early hat-trick from Robbie Keane followed by a brace from James McClean, a goal for man of the match Wesley Hoolahan and an unfortunate own goal by the away side’s goal keeper Jordan Perez meant that a party atmosphere was present for the duration of the game in Dublin 4.
It took just over five minutes for the Republic Of Ireland to take a deserved lead. The chance was created by a fantastic outside of the boot pass from Wesley Hoolahan who played through Aidan McGeady. The tricky Everton winger then simply slid the ball back across the box to his onrushing captain in the form of Robbie Keane who converted at the first time of asking.
The tempo of the game was to be set early by Martin O’Neill’s men as shots from Keane and Hoolahan could have made it 3-0 inside ten minutes if it wasn’t for a stubborn Gibraltar backline.
Wesley Hoolahan was once again involved in Ireland’s second goal of the game which came after just 14 minutes. The Norwich starlet controlled the ball with his chest before inch perfectly volleying a pass through to the LA Galaxy front man. All that was left for Keane to do was to take one touch and convert the ball beyond the stricken Gibraltar keeper Jordan Perez.
It took Ireland’s all time record goal scorer no more than 18 minutes to grab his hat-trick as he converted a spot kick following on from a foul committed by Perez on Hoolahan. The chance came about after Hendrick played a fantastically weighted ball over the top of the defence to Keane, although the skipper failed to convert his initial attempt Hoolahan was on hand to get a flick on the ball before he was bundled over by Perez allowing Keane to claim his hat-trick.

The rest of the half failed to ignite in the way it threatened to do early on as apart from efforts by Wesley Hoolahan and Aidan McGeady, there was little else for the home fans to get excited about.
Most of the home fans were not even back in their seats when Aidan McGeady played the ball through to Robbie Keane who in turn slid the ball across to James McClean to allow the former Derry City winger to add to Ireland’s goal tally.
The Republic Of Ireland then went five in front just five minutes later as a combination of Robbie Keane and Wes Hoolahan yielded Jordan Perez sticking the ball into his own net much to the joy of the Irish supporters who showed little signs of demonstrating any sympathetic values towards the distraught Gibraltar net minder.
Not two but ONE minute later the boys in green found the back of the net for a sixth time as the superb Hoolahan saw his effort palmed into the feet of McClean who only had to apply the simplest of finishes.
Four minutes later and Ireland secured their fourth goal in the space of ten minutes as Robbie Keane this time turned provider to allow Hoolahan to dance his way past Casciaro and Chipolina, before thumping the ball beyond keeper Jordan Perez from four yards out.
On the hour mark much to the amusement of the home supporters the Gibraltar manager Allen Bula opted to substitute his goalkeeper Jordan Perez for his reserve number in the form of Jamie Robba.
Not long after and David Forde was called in to make his first save of the game as a corner from Preston North End’s Liam Walker was met by the head of Joseph Chipolina but Forde was up to the test with the Milwall stopper punching the ball over the bar.
