The Britannia Stadium

Opened by the legendary Sir Stanley Mathews on 30 August 1997, the Britannia Stadium has been the home of Stoke City FC since that date. The first goal to be scored at the ground was netted by Irish midfielder Graham Kavanagh in a League Cup game against Rochdale.

After his death in February 2000, Sir Stanley's ashes were buried under the centre circle.
