Barry’s Biography

Barry played with Derby County before being signed for Cork Celtic by Amby Fogarty in 1969. Signed as a striker, he top-scored for Celtic in his first season, hitting 10 league goals, but the following season he switched to centre-back.

After two years with Celtic, Barry returned to England where he played with Nuneaton for eighteen months. But in December 1972 he was back living in Cork and training with Celtic. In January of '73 Limerick announced that they has signed Notley but Celtic laid claim to the player and were backed by the FAI.

Barry began his second spell at Cork Celtic away to Finn Harps on 4 March 1973 and his time there lasted until August 1975 when he was transfer listed ahead of the new 75/76 season. There were no League of Ireland takers for Barry and he started the season playing on loan with Munster Senior League side Albert Rovers.

After one season in the Munster Senior League with Alberts, Barry returned to the LOI but not, as might have been expected, with Cork Celtic. With Cork Hibernians resigning from the League at the end of 1975/76, it was Albert Rovers who were awarded their place in the League of Ireland and Barry scored Albert's first ever league goal in a 2-1 defeat to Shamrock Rovers at Flower Lodge on 3 October '76.

Barry had played three seasons in the LOI with Alberts but when the club changed their name to Cork United in the Summer of 1979 he was placed on the transfer list and went back to Albert Rovers in the MSL.The following season Barry returned to Cork United.
