Live Updates for Dundalk -v- Shamrock Rovers

Updates by Shane Clancy

90' + 4'

FULL TIME!

The game has ended between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers. Dundalk starts its quest for a fourth successive league title with all three points at Oriel Park tonight. It was a scrappy game but with plenty to talk about.

90' + 4'

Rovers almost equalise with the last kick of the game! McAllister with an acrobatic effort from Miele's free kick on the right. It lands on the crossbar and a relieved Sava sees it bounce over from there.

90' + 3'

A mix-up between Devine and Chencinski leads to a corner for Dundalk. It could've been worse.

90'

Free Kick

Miele with the free kick from the right for Rovers. About 35 yards out. Again it comes to nothing. Dundalk scramble it away.

89'

Rovers with a free-kick from their own half. They push everyone up but it comes to nothing.

87'

Rovers get a half-chance. Great cross from Madden on the right and Miele gets his head to it but it goes harmlessly wide of Sava's right-hand post.

85'

Substitution

Niclas Vemmelund replaces Patrick McEleney for Dundalk.

82'

Have Rovers anything left in the tank now? Just when they were making a game of it after Burke's goal, he goes and commits a dreadful foul on McGrath and is sent for an early bath.

79'

Yellow Card

Ciaran Kilduff is booked for Dundalk.

79'

Yellow Card

Sean Boyd is booked for Shamrock Rovers.

79'

Red Card

Graham Burke is sent off for Shamrock Rovers. Three minutes after Burke's debut goal he gets himself sent off for a very poor challenge on Jamie McGrath.

76'

GOAL!

Graham Burke scores for Shamrock Rovers. Rovers are back in this! Burke scores on his debut. It was a shot from the right-hand side which deflected and looped up and over Sava in the Dundalk goal. Game on now!

74'

The game has gotten very scrappy again. Shamrock Rovers need to get the ball to Finn whenever they can. He's showed the most composure since coming on in the second half and looks the most likely to create something from deep.

71'

Substitution

Jamie McGrath replaces Michael Duffy for Dundalk.

71'

Stephen Bradley is trying to rally his troops. In truth, they just have not been able to create any chances of note tonight.

69'

Substitution

Graham Burke replaces Roberto Lopes for Shamrock Rovers.

67'

Substitution

Conor Clifford replaces Stephen O'Donnell for Dundalk.

67'

Yellow Card

Michael Duffy is booked for Dundalk.

66'

Michael Duffy has a shot blocked after being gifted an opportunity by some very sloppy defending by Rovers' Devine.

65'

Yellow Card

That didn't take long. Ronan Finn booked for a foul from behind on O'Donnell.

61'

Substitution

One 18 year old replaces another, Boyd for O'Connor. Michael O'Connor got no change from Gartland tonight.

59'

Substitution

Ronan Finn comes on to some choice singing from his old Dundalk fans. Finn replaces Ryan Connolly in midfield for Rovers.

58'

The home support is in full voice now, here in Dundalk.

54'

McEleney is beginning to take control of this game for Dundalk. He looks to be a fantastic young talent.

51'

GOAL!

Ciaran Kilduff scores for Dundalk. Absolutely brilliant work from McEleney. He blocks the Rovers attempted clearance himself, gathers the loose ball on the right-hand side and hangs up a beautiful, deep cross for Ciaran Kilduff, and he simply couldn't miss with his header.

50'

Corner Kick

Corner for Rovers is gathered very comfortably by Sava.

49'

Michael O'Connor breaks from his own half but sees his shot deflected wide. Corner to Rovers.

47'

Rovers have definitely tried to take the initiative early in this second half. Still finding it hard to create a clear cut opportunity tough.

46'

SECOND HALF

Referee Neil Doyle gets the second half underway. Rovers to tip off.

45' + 1'

HALF TIME

It is half-time between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers.

45'

Free Kick

Miele's free kick goes just wide of Sava's right-hand post. Miele had the Dundalk 'keeper scrambling across his goal there!

44'

Michael O'Connor is fouled by Gartland, showing experience beyond his years in the process. Free for Rovers from about twenty-five yards out.

40'

Rovers have not responded well to going behind. If anything, Dundalk is looking much the stronger and settling into their rhythm a lot better now.

39'

Corner Kick

Corner from Mountney is far too deep and goes for a throw to Rovers on the far side.

37'

Ryan Connolly just in time to prevent McEleney getting a shot on target from the edge of the box. Corner to Dundalk.

32'

GOAL!

Robbie Benson scores for Dundalk. Michael Duffy, signed from Celtic, works his magic down the left and gets the low cross in at the second attempt. Benson was there for the simple tap in from a couple of yards.

30'

Darren Meenan isn't endearing himself to his old fans here tonight.

29'

Yellow Card

Darren Meenan is booked for Shamrock Rovers.

27'

Rovers will be the happiest with how this game has progressed so far.

23'

Yellow Card

Sean Gannon is booked for Dundalk.

23'

It's been a scrappy last few minutes here.

20'

Sean Gannon getting an earful from the travelling Rovers fans, his old fans, as he takes a throw for Dundalk on the right.

19'

Free Kick

Mountney's cross goes too deep and Rovers deal with it easily.

18'

Yellow Card

Trevor Clarke is booked for Shamrock Rovers.

16'

Massey misses from yards! Gartland had acres of space and put his header down into the path of Massey who sees his shot at the far post stopped by Chencinski. Massey really should have finished that.

15'

Paddy Barrett is having to change his jersey and get physio attention at the sideline due to a bad nosebleed.

14'

Free Kick

A high cross into the box from the Rovers free kick on the right by Meenan but dealt with easily by the Lilywhites defence

13'

Miele gets a cross in for Rovers but Sava gathers it easily.

11'

Disallowed goal - Sava allows Michael O'Connor to get too close before his clearance. The referee decides, correctly, that the ball deflected into the Dundalk net off of O'Connor's elbow.

11'

There's been a high tempo to this game so far in Oriel Park.

8'

Free Kick

Mountney wastes a free-kick with a speculative effort that goes well high and wide for Dundalk.

6'

Free Kick

Massey arrows a header just wide of the near post from a Dundalk free-kick.

5'

Shocking mistake from Paddy Barrett, not controlling the ball and letting Meenan in for a clear shot on goal. Luckily for Barrett the Rovers man curled it just wide.

4'

Miele has a shot blocked and the ball loops easily into the hands of Sava in the Dundalk goal.

3'

Michael O'Connor with a late challenge on his old teammate, Brian Garland. No card shown to the young striker.

1'

Early chance created by Kilduff for Dundalk, cleared away by Connolly for the Hoops.

1'

GAME ON!

The game between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers has kicked off.

0'

The atmosphere is heating up at Oriel Park.

Kick-off in five minutes.

0'

"Why wouldn't these players be as hungry as ever?" - Stephen Kenny on his Dundalk team in pre-match interview.

"They're the best side in the country.... I want their players to walk off (after tonight's game) thinking we're not too far away from them" - Stephen Bradley looking forward to taking on the reigning champions tonight.

0'

We're an hour away from kick-off here at Oriel Park.

Stephen Kenny's league champions are up against it tonight after somewhat of a mass exodus from the Lilywhites in the close season. They also have a few injury concerns whereas Shamrock Rovers are boasting a clean bill of health.

Three (Ronan Finn, Darren Meenan and Michael O'Connor) of those leaving Dundalk actually joined the Hoops and could be in action tonight against their former club.

The last time the sides met in Dundalk was a 1-1 draw in the league last September.

0'
