Live Updates for Waterford -v- Longford Town

90' + 4'

FULL TIME!

It's all over here at the RSC and Waterford advance to meet Dundalk on Tuesday night in the first leg of the promotion/relegation play-off. The result last week set them up well for this game. For Longford it's another season in the First Division for them.

90' + 4'
Chants of 'we are going up' are ringing around the RSC.

90' + 3'

Substitution

Waterford make a final change; Jack Doherty for Paul Phelan.

90' + 2'

Yellow Card

Goalscorer Alan Kirby gets booked for a foul on Seanie Maguire.

90' + 2'
Jojo comes to mind here for that Longford goal 'it's just a little too late',

90'

GOAL!

Noel Haverty with the cross, that deflected off Karl Bermingham and fell nicely to Alan Kirby. A final present for the Waterford native who is retiring at the end of the season.

88'
John Frost puts in a fantastic tackle in on Tony Griffiths to put the ball out for a corner.

87'
Seanie Maguire has a chance to make it really game, set and match but his shot was deflected out for a corner by Longford defender Willo McDonagh.

85'
Longford are trying to everything to get at least a goal but Waterford are standing firm.

83'
A lovely curling effort from Gary Dempsey but it just went inches over the bar.

78'
We've just had a standing ovation here in the RSC for Waterford. A few journalists in the pressbox joined in too including a Longford one. They totally deserve the position they are in.

75'
Karl Bermingham with the shot but it sails into Packie Holden's hands.

70'

Substitution

A change for Waterford: Ben Ryan is on for Peter White.

69'
Thomas Crawley with the cross and Tony Griffiths with a glaring miss for Longford. Really should've done better.

68'

Substitution

Double substitution for Longford: Alan Kirby for Keith Gillespie and Tony Griffiths for Austin Skelly.

67'
The lovable Adrian Flanagan has just announced that if Longford score 3 goals he'll resign as a reporter. Eh he'll definitely be reporting from Oriel Park Tuesday night.

65'
Just been told that the attendance here is 1,198. The biggest crowd of the season here.

64'
All journalists here, both Waterford and Longford are bemused by some of the decisions Mr Callanan.

62'

Yellow Card

Karl Bermingham gets booked here. The most ridiculous booking, well along with Long's sending-off. Bermingham was clearing taken out of it by David Breen but he was accused by the Cork whistler of diving.

61'
And it's corner number 12 for Longford. They really have not done anything from deadball though.

59'
Longford make their first change; Karl Bermingham is on for Daniel Purdy.

54'
I was going to tell my brother - who likes a flutter - to put money on a red card here. I really should have because it was always going to happen.

51'
Daniel Purdy with the free which he balloons over the bar.

49'

Red Card

And we've a red card here. Not really surprising because it's Keith Callanan who is refereeing. Seamus Long with the red card. The third time he's been sent off by the Cork official. Clearly dislikes Mr Long. Austin Skelly was the player he fouled.

46'
Paul Phelan is definitely in the running for miss of the season; Peter Keegan with the cross and Phelan who was literally right in front of goals blasts his effort over.

46'
Longford have now got their 11th corner. Tony Ghee here has suggested they get bonus points for that.

46'

SECOND HALF

Second half underway here.

45' + 1'

HALF TIME

Half-time here and it's Waterford who are very much in the driving seat. I'm going for a well earned cup of tea and a bar.

45'
One minute of additional time to be added at the end of this half.

43'

Yellow Card

And another yellow; this time it's for Robert Bayly.

41'
A few Waterford boys are still nervous about the lead even though it's 3-0. This is the RSC, not Lourdes and there'll be no miracles for Longford.

40'

Yellow Card

Noel Haverty becomes the first Longford player to get booked.

39'
Noel Haverty with a header for Longford but Packie Holden gathers. Haverty tries to follow through and there's a little pit of pushing and shoving between the players.

37'
9th corner for Longford. We are having a game of count the corners. Nothing else exciting here. And that leads to a 10th corner. That's 10-1 Longford lead on corners but Waterford lead on the scoreboard.

36'
Another Longford corner - 7th of the night. No good having corners when you do nothing with them. There's another corner from it.

35'
Peter Higgins hits a powerful strike but it's well saved by Craig Hyland.

32'

Yellow Card

Paul Phelan is the first player to get booked.

30'
The Waterford lads are wondering if Longford can stage a stunning comeback. I can't see Longford getting one, never mind three. They haven't scored a goal in three games before tonight's game. SD Galway was the last time they found the back of the net, back at the end of September.

27'
The game has got a little scrappy here. Nothing really to report here.

22'
The win last week in Longford was just what the home side needed. It meant that Longford had to go at Waterford from the off here and were always going to be vulnerable on the break. That's exactly how the goal came about.

21'
Waterford nearly get a second; Gary Dempsey plays the ball out wide to Paul Phelan, he whips a cross into the box but it's headed over by Dempsey.

13'
It fair to say that this game is over even as this early stage though Adrian Flanagan here beside me doesn't think so. Longford needed an early goal and the team that got it was Waterford. They now lead 3-0 on aggregate.

11'

Substitution

Substitution for Waterford: Seamus Long is on for the injured Stephen Mulcahy.

9'

GOAL!

Totally against the run of play Waterford score; Peter Keegan played the ball to Seanie Maguire who made a dashing run down the left wing, his powerful shot was parried by Craig Hyland and Peter Higgins finished to the net.

8'
Another corner for Longford; this time the ball put out by Craig Burns.

7'
Packie Holden fists the ball away.

7'
Longford are after forcing their fourth corner. It comes to nothing.

6'
The wind here is actually strong so it could play its part. Have to say the pitch here is quite sandy, reminds me of Terryland earlier this season. Has Tramore beach moved to the RSC?

5'
Longford are coming into the game; a cross by Keith Gillespie is cut out for a corner by Craig Burns. Longford are going to huff and puff but will they blow the house down.

2'
And Waterford are making a bright start to the game. They took the game to Longford last week and aim to do the same.

1'
Great comment from Matt Keane here - "we were one nil up this time last week".

1'

GAME ON!

And we're off. Home side get the game underway.

0'
Great excitement here in the pressbox as some of the lads huddle around the tv and watch the all-stars where Waterford have just got two.

0'
The teams are out on the pitch now. Some good noise from the stand this side. A few people scattered on the far stands.

0'
Just heard that it's Michael Butler's birthday today - Michael is the media liasion officer and a true gent. We all know what his ideal birthday present would be..

0'
We're having a conversation here in the pressbox about tonight's referee Keith Callanan. Not a popular choice with either team. The last time he refereed Waterford he sent off Seamus Long and gave a few dubious decisions against Waterford while his last Longford game was down here where he sent off two Longford players - he has sent off six Longford players in total. So we reckon it'll come down to who he dislikes the most.

0'
The teams are in the system. Waterford are unchanged from last Saturday while Longford have four changes; in come Michael Lee, Des Hope, Daniel Purdy and Austin Skelly. Tony Griffiths and Alan Kirby drop to the bench while Gary Cronin and Aiden Collins are not listed on the team sheet.

0'
Welcome to a very cold RSC for the second leg of the First Division play-off between Waterford Utd and Longford Town. If there are any brass monkeys about I would feel very sorry for them. Having secured a 2-0 win last Saturday night in Flancare Park it's very much advantage Waterford.
