ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC

The Saints will hope to secure their fifth win in a row when they welcome Derry City to Richmond Park tonight (kick-off 7.45pm).

On Friday night Pat’s came from behind to defeat Drogheda United 4-1. Thomas Oluwa had given Drogs the lead in the sixth minute. Ryan Edmondson scored his third goal in two games when he drew Pat’s level in the 53rd minute. 

Joseph Anang saved Mark Doyle’s penalty before Aidan Keena dispatched a spot-kick in the 65th minute.

Kian Leavy and Romal Palmer added goals for Stephen Kenny’s side who remain unbeaten at Richmond Park. Nine goals at home for Pat’s in three home games. 

The Saints lie second in the table, three points behind leaders Bohemians.

Speaking to LOI TV after the Drogs game, Pat’s manager Stephen Kenny said: “Derry have a quality squad, high quality squad. We have to just dust ourselves down and get ready for Monday. We have to recover quickly tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday and get ready for another home game on Monday. Home support has been tremendous. We have to get ourselves ready now and switch onto that game quickly.” 

DERRY CITY

City will hope to stop a run of two defeats in a row when they travel to Inchicore tonight. 

The Candystripes lie in sixth place in the table, six points behind Pat’s. They have won just two games out of the six games they’ve played this season. They’ve drawn one and then three defeats.

On Friday night they lost 2-1 at home to Shelbourne. Jack Henry-Francis gave Shels the lead in the eighth minute but Henry Rylah equalised for Derry minutes later. 

Daniel Kelly restored Joey O’Brien’s side’s lead in the 34th minute and Derry just couldn’t muster up another equaliser.

Such was the disappointment over the result and the performance of the team, Derry City supporters booed them off the pitch at the end of the game. 

Pressure is now on manager Tiernan Lynch.

He spoke to Highland Radio after the game and admitted they were “not good enough” on Friday night. 

He believes that this group of players can perform: “The group of lads that we have, just because we have a bad run of form doesn’t mean that we can’t perform. Just because we have had dips doesn’t mean we can’t just go out and perform. 

"Realistically when times like this happen, it’s just about bouncing back. If we believe that we can do that there is nothing stopping us.”

St. Pat’s have scored the most goals in the Premier Division, so far this season, with 12.

Derry City have scored nine goals this season but have conceded nine goals too.
