And that's it. Shelbourne will rue a host of missed second-half chances with Ciarán Kilduff the main culprit. Cork City will thank their hosts' 'keeper Colin McCabe for gifting them an equaliser and be grateful to his opposite number Mark McNulty for an excellent second-half performance. He needed it after his poor clearance led to Shelbourne's early opener. Honours even then at Tolka. City move a point ahead of Finn Harps at the bottom while Shelbourne's point enables them to climb all the way up to fifth, ahead of Waterford on goal difference. That is one congested table.

The game has ended between Shelbourne and Cork City.

Dan Byrne inexplicably boots the ball skywards in a panic. Simpson, being closest to the sky, looks ideally-placed to capitalise but he can't sort himself out The ball bounces just outside the six-yard box and into McCabe's hands.

Dalling slips between Poynton and Kabia on the left sideline, but Dinanga miscontrols his pass into the box.

Dobbs then breaks free down the right-hand channel, but McNulty is equal to his effort. 

O'Brien gets the better of Dobbs and rolls a pass towards McNulty. It's short though, and the veteran side-steps the onrushing Shels striker. We've seen him caught before while doing that, but he gets away with it this time.

From the corner, four or five players rise. Jake O'Brien's is the head that finally gets on it, and MOrrissey wins a soft free-kick.

O'Hanlon releases Rooney down the home side's left. His cross is defelcted towards goal but McNulty palms it behind.

Dobb's low centre from the right is flicked towards goal by Rooney, but McNulty is relieved to see it trickle past the far post.

Both sides looking exceptionally ropey in defence since Dalling's goal. There could be a winner here.

O'Brien heads clear, and McGlade is fouled as he tries to run clear.

Deegan finds Kabia at the edge of the box. His stinging effort is parried by McNulty for a corner.

Mark Byrne digs out a pass in the box to Rooney; his weak effort squeezes through McCabe's legs and McNulty gathers.

Nostalgia for City fans, as Shels now have Dobbs and Kabia on the pitch.

O'Connor gets two goes at it, the second of which is cleared by Dan Byrne for another corner.

The second corner is cleared and sent back by Slevin. The ball trickles wide.

Simpson and Fenwick combine to set up a shot for Morrissey. Two deflections and a panciked scramble from McCabe later, City have a corner.

Then Dalling, his dander up, marauds down the left but shoots far too high from a silly angle.

Oh my. Colin McCabe outdoes McNulty in an alarming way. Holland's crossfield ball to Dalling was good, as was the winger's control. His cross, however, was not, but McCabe somehow contrived to spoon the ball over the line while colliding with the near post. Bizarre.

Poynton digs out a cross from the right, but Rooney can't get any power on his back-post header. McNulty gathers.

Dalling runs crossfield towards the box. HIs shot is blocked, but Byrne and Poynton run into each other while trying to clear. No City player is alert enough to capitalise.

Kilduff wins a soft free-kick off Jake O'Brien on halfway as Shels make their first substitution.

Then it's City's turn to threaten, as McGlade cuts in from the right and attempts a one-two with Simpson. THe substitute's return ball is just too long and Shels can clear.

Then Brennan is sent clear, but doesn't back himself to beat Slevin for pace. He's forced into a wide position and McNulty can claim his angled drive.

Deja vu, as just a minute later Kilduff has almost as good a chance and McNulty is equal to it.

Huge chance for Shels! Brennan plays a straight ball through the City defence and finds Kilduff, who is one- on-one with McNulty. The veteran manages to push away his effort and Fernandes' follow-up is blocked before looping into McNulty's hands. Kilduff should really have scored there.

NIcely worked free-kick from Shels after Kilduff is fouled in the air. The set-piece is played short for Deegan, but his flick around the corner is too long for Quinn.

Deegan lucky to escape after Fenwick robs him. SImpson can't make up his mind what to do with the loose ball, however, and Deegan and Byrne rob him between them.

The visitors hang onto the ball for a little while. McGlade crosses from deep but Byrne can clear. Morrissey picks up the loose ball and hits one from distance, but it's wild.

Simpson's introduction at least gives the visitors a focal point up top, even if City will now have to do without Ochieng's presence in front of the back four.

The Shels midfielder is carded for halting a City break illegally.

Ryan Brennan receives some treatment, but is good to continue. Incidentally a certain City player, who shall remain nameless, toog a swig from the Shels physio's water bottle. Clear contravention of Covid guidelines there.

O'Connor's flag-kick is cleared. McGlade has a go from the right side of the box but he doesn't trouble McCabe.

Chance! Morrissey's long diagnoal from right to left is won by Fewick, who directs towards Simpson. The big man is denied by a sharp stop from McCabe. Corner for City.

Rooney releases O'Hanlon, who escapes inside Holland. His cross appears to strike the arm of O'Connor, but Rob Hennessy is unmoved.

Simpson's effort from 35 yards, with what appears to be a toe-poke, is easy for McCabe to gather.

The City midfielder is booked for hauling down Fernandes after a lovely flick from Brennan.

Shels break and win a corner of their own after Kilduff releases Rooney, whose effort is blocked.

McGlade and Simpson work an opening for Fenwick to shoot. His effort from outside the box is deflected for a corner.

Underway again at Tolka. Big half of football for both sides.

Half-time at Tolka. It's been poor enough fare, with the pitch not helping matters. However the home side have had marginally the better of it and lead through Dayle Rooney's fourth-minute goal. Shels held the visitors at arm's length for the majority of the half, allowing them to have posession in their own half and pressing well at times. City will need to up their game considerably in the second half, although Deshane Dalling has looked threatening on the left for them. Stay tuned for the seond half, as I watch it so you don't have to.

Fenwick does well to control a long ball and plays it wide right to McGlade. His cross is behind Coleman, who can only loop a weak header into McCabe's arms.

Bennett is in trouble for City. He goes down following an innocuous-looking challenge and leaves the pitch with the physio.

Kevin O'Connor trundles forward and loses the ball in an advanced position. He fouls Poynton, whose quick long diagonal free-kick towards Rooney is well-defended initially by Holland. However the young full-back's pass back to McNulty is too short for comfort, and the veteran just gets there before Rooney to clear. Risky business for the visitors.

Rooney escapes down the left for Shels and centres for Brennan. His effort from distance cannons off O'Connor back to Rooney. He plays it back into the path of Brennan, who really should do better as he scoops over from ten yards. Good chance.

Dalling wins a free-kick down City's left. McGlade's delivery is poor. When the clearance is worked back to him, his cross finds Fenwick in an offside position.

A wonderful deep cross from Dalling on City's left leaves McCabe stranded, but again it's just too high for Fenwick and he can't turn it home.

McNulty pushes away a flicked header by Daniel Byrne after Shels work a cross from a throw-in on their right. I'm not convinced it was on target.

Ochieng is again caught napping and is robbed by Kilduff. His cross from the right is cleared as far as Deegan, whose effort is blocked by Coleman. An exquisite turn by Quinn on the left side of the box enables him to square, but Kilduff can't make proper contact with it and City can scramble clear.

Ochieng lucky not to have his pocket picked in the centre by Brennan. He just about gets between the Drogheda man and the ball and wins a soft free-kick

An extremely loose pass rolled from Bennett to Ochieng in the middle of the field enables Quinn to pounce and send Kilduff away. He goes it alone, despite having options left and right, and drags his effort ten yards to the left.

Penalty claims for City as Fenwick goes down under pressure in the box, but they're waved away. Then Dalling rolls a pass infield to Ochieng, whose effort from distance is not good.

Shels deploying an effective press at times as City pass it around their own half. The visitors are having to resort to long balls pumped towards an isolated Fenwick.

Better from the visitors, as McGlade and Morrissey combine down the right. McGlade's cross is a fraction too deep for Fenwick, who can't get enough on it.

Coleman's ball from deep on City's right into the Shels box causes McCabe some problems, but Fenwick is adjudged to have fouled him.

A ball slung into the away side's box from Shels' right leads to a bout of pinball, but McNulty claims.

Shocking again from McNulty, who attempts to shepherd the ball out of play outside his box. KIlduff, however, has other ideas and gets a toe on it to keep it in. McNulty then appears to foul the Shels striker, but gets away with one.

Excellent ball by Morrissey to find Slevin out wide for City after a sustained spell of possession, but the full-back is offside. Careless from the youngster.

Scrappy stuff since the goal, with Shels looking to exploit Alan Bennett's lack of pace. The ball seems to be running strangely on the Tolka Park surface.

Kilduff, of course, enjoyed an extremely productive loan spell at Turner's Cross in 2013. His highlights there included becoming the first City player to score four goals in one game. The opponents, inevitably, were his current side in a 5-3 home win in October of that year.

Appalling defending from City. McNulty spoons a clearance to Quinn, who finds Kilduff's run down the right channel behind O'Connor. The former City striker's cut-back is perfect for Rooney, whose headed finish is simplicity itself. Great start for the home side.

This is a big one for the away side, who face Rovers again and Dundalk, both at home, in their next two games. Shels will be hoping to keep gathering points as they hope to extend their stay in the top flight.

Two changes from the home side from the side which defeated Galway United in the second round of the cup eight days ago, with Luke Byrne and Seán Quinn replacing Daniel O'Reilly and Mark Byrne, both of whom drop to the bench. City boss Neale Fenn, meanwhile, has opted for four changes from the side which went out at the same stage of the cup to Shamrock Rovers on Monday night. Mark McNulty, Dale Holland, Alan Bennett and Scott Fenwick replace Liam Bossin, Charlie Fleming, Jake O'Brien and Connor Simpson.

After the earlier clash of the table-toppers in Tallaght, our attention turns to the lower half of the table where basement-dwellers City will be hoping to climb off the bottom of the table for the third time this season with a win over seventh-placed Shels.
