Good win for City who will be happy to have notched a few goals tonight given their recent troubles in front of goal.

Announcer at Turners Cross now says that the man of the match is Sean Maguire but I just find it difficult to trust that guy anymore.

Announcer now declares the score is Cork City 5 Longford Town 1. Ive checked with my sources and I believe its actually 5-2.

Attendance watch 2.046. Announcer does his best to decrease that number for the next game as he welcomes the crowd to come back in September for the Shamrock Rovers match when their next game is actually next week against Bray.

Ogbene looks to run at the Longford defence every time he gets the ball and he almost scores a superb individually effort but after he skips past the defenders his attempt comes back off the near post.

Youngster Chiedozie Ogbene looking eagar to impress here as he wins a free but Greg Bolger's inswinging cross from the left just misses the head of Bennett at the back post.

Goalmouth scramble. Twice City try to scuff the ball over the line, twice Longford deny them with last ditch clearances.

Lively player is Longford's Eddie Dsane. Continues to threaten.  Latches on to a loose ball in the box, works space for himself well but again can only direct his effort straight down the throat of McNulty.

Long free to the back stick finds Sheppard but his clever effort falls just  wide of the far post, decent effort from a difficult angle. First thing of note that as happened in a while, its after falling flat here at Turners Cross.

And we're down to just the one Kevin O'Connor on the pitch as the Longford Town version is withdrawn. You would be surprised but it can be an issue.

Dooley has the chance to add a fifth but his curling effort flies just wide of the far left post. John Caulfield then has the chance to show he still has it but he fails to control the ball as it drops to him in the dug out. Disappointing all round really.

Credit to Longford, they've never really let their heads drop here despite the gulf in quality. City in a menacing mood for the first time in a long time. Ominous.

Second half started the same as the first, City sloppy, tame start. Surely means they'kk score soon.

ExtraTime.ie's Stephen Walsh has rewarded me for my prediciton being correct so far by giving me a wine gum. If it stays 3-1 by full time I'll be looking for money. Surley more goals in this for Cork City.

Maguire through to Dooley, the attacker uses his pace to burst past the defender but his shot when in on goal kis well saved by Ryan Coulter.

Kealon Dillon free just to the right of the penalty area forces another good save from McNulty. 

Longford are trying to make my prediciton become accurate before half time, piling on the presure here as Philp Gannon sees his powerful strike deflected wide. Corner comes to nothing.

Gavan Holohan almost makes it 4-0 but as the ball breaks kindly to him at the edge of the box, his powerful curling effort sails just over the top left corner

59 minutes for Longford Town to hold on and pull a goal back so my prediciton is correct. I'm not very confident!

Bennett fouled, Penalty Cork.

Should be 3-0 but Karl Sheppard slices wide on the stretch at the back post following good build up play down the right by Cork.

Town's Eddie Dsane getting more involved in the game now as he twice fires at the Cork goal, but on both occassion he fires straight at Mark McNulty.

I'm just going to start jinxing things in my favour now rather than jinx the game any longer. I sure hope the Clonakilty pudding man isn't here so he can't give the press free Clonakilty pudding like he did at the last game I attended here.

I should probably stop saying things but then again thats why I'm here. Just as I say it could well be game over, Longford almost pull a goal back but first McNulty produces a fine save to deny Kealon Dillon before Eddie Dsane heads the resulting corner wide at the back post.

Great goal by City and it looks like it could be game over already here even at 2-0.

The Leesiders laying siege on the Longford town goal at the moment, its going to be a long night for the visitors at this rate, Cork sense a chance to add more goals.

City almost immediately make it two nil but Karl Sheppard's goal bound effort from close range is blocked. 

So much for that sloppy start then. Ideal start for City.

Couple of groans already as City misplace two easy passes, sloppy start from the hosts as John Caulfield already barks the orders.

The teams are on the pitch and the game will begin once Corky the Cheetah has made his way off the pitch.

Was just asked for a prediction by ExtraTime.ie's very own Stephen Walsh. Very hard to predict given City's inability to score goals lately but i went for 3-1, fancy Sean Maguire to fire City to win on the back of his call up to the Republic of Ireland under 21 squad today.

City faithful here praying they slip up. 10 minutes to kick off.

It will be interestiing to see how Dundalk recover from their recent champions league qualifier defeat to Legia Warsaw, physically as well as mentally. It's something they have to get used to following todays Europa League group stage draw which sees them travel to Russia and Israel in the near future. 

Anyway, I digress, glad to be here (eventuallly) for what could prove to be an important night in the race for the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title. City with a 15 minute head start on Dundalk, who are away to Wexford Youth, tonight as they look to close the gap on the Lilywhites which currently stands at 4 points.

Good thing Kilreen Celtic also weren't playing at home tonight!

I would have been here earlier but finding a place to park around Turners Cross tonight proved difficult. Great idea by all concerned to have Muntser playing a home game just over the round the same night Cork City are playing at home, got to love that organisation.
