Derby County were formed in 1884 and were one of the founder members of the Football League in 1888.

Derby won the the FA Cup in 1946 but enjoyed their most successful period in the 1970's under manager Brian Clough when they won two league titles, in 1972 and 1975. Derby also reached the semi-finals of the European Cup in 1972/73, losing out to Juventus in a tie that angered Clough to such an extent that he publicly labelled the Italian side 'cheats'.

In the summer of 1997 Derby left their home of 102 years, leaving the Baseball Ground for their brand new stadium, Pride Park.
