Keith’s Biography
Keith is an Irish international midfielder who played underage football with Dublin side Cherry Orchard before playing youths football at Arsenal and Aston Villa. He returned from England in 2003 without having made the breakthrough to first team football and played for a brief period with LSL side Bluebell United.
In 2003 he signed for St Patrick's Athletic where he made 75 league appearances in just over two and a half seasons, moving to Drogheda United in July 2005. In the summer of 2006 he returned to St Pats after a falling out with manager Paul Doolin. In December 2008 Keith earned a second chance in England, this time with Birmingham City, who he joined officially on 1st January 2009. He made his debut for the Blues on 17 January against Cardiff City and scored his first goal for the club against Nottingham Forest on 14 February.
Keith remained a regular in Alex McLeish's side and helped the club to win promotion to the Premier League at the end of 2008/09. He made 34 appearances in his first Premier League season and another 24 in 2010/11, and he played in the team that won the League Cup, beating Arsenal 2-1 in the final, in February 2011. Birmingham were relegated at the end of 2010/11 and Keith's third full season at St Andrews was spent back in the Championship where he was one of new manager Chris Hughton's most valued players.
In 2012/13 Keith endured a difficult season, making just 7 appearances before returning to Ireland on compassionate leave. He returned to Birmingham later in the season but played just twice more before injury intervened and, at the end of the year his contract was not extended and he left the club. After several months out of the game Keith signed up for a third spell at St Patrick's Athletic, agreeing a deal on 23 December 2013.
Keith was an integral part of the Saints team, as he played twenty six league games for the club, scoring twice, as they finished third in the table. He also played in the FAI Cup final, which St. Pats won 2-0 against Derry City.
In November 2014, Keith made the short trip to Tallaght and signed for Shamrock Rovers for the 2015 season under manager Pat Fenlon. Keith failed to score during his Rovers career as he made just twelve appearances before suffering hip and knee injuries in May 2015. He then announced in August that following surgery he had come to the decision that his professional career was over and that he was retiring at the age of 32.
Keith made his senior international debut against Paraguay at the RDS on 25 May 2010 and won 16 full international caps.
