Darren’s Biography

Darren was signed by Finn Harps from St. Joseph's Boys in February 2006 and spent one year at Finn Park before joining Monaghan United in March 2007. Eighteen months followed at Gortakeegan before Darren signed for UCD in the summer of 2008. Darren's UCD debut came in a 3-0 defeat at home to St Patrick's Athletic on 3 August '08 and he made 12 league appearances as the club went on to suffer relegation at the season's end.

Darren was then signed by Shelbourne shortly before Christmas of 2008 and spent the early part of 2009 at Tolka Park. It was a short lived spell and he left in May having made just 4 league and cup appearances. Two months later he joined Sligo Rovers where he made 8 league and cup appearances during the remainder of the '09 season including the club's FAI Cup final defeat to Sporting Fingal.

Darren then spent a short period out of football before signing at Drogheda United in July 2010, scoring once in 15 league appearances as Drogheda finished bottom of the Premier Division. In January of 2011 he returned for a second spell at UCD and enjoyed a successful season with the Students, making 32 league appearances and scoring five goals.

In January 2012 he signed for Liam Buckley, the newly appointed manager of St Patrick's Athletic. He made his Pats debut against Cliftonville in the Setanta Cup on 13 February and made 16 league appearances, scoring once. But Darren was not involved in the club's FAI Cup final against Derry City and he left Richmond Park after just one season.

In February 2013 Darren signed for new Dundalk manager, Stephen Kenny, and made his club debut in an EA Cup game against Shelbourne on 11 March 2013. He made a total of 28 league appearances (12 from the bench) as the Lilywhites finished second in the 2013 Premier Division behind champions St Patrick's Ath.

In 2014 season Darren missed only one game in the league and scored three times in his 32 league appearances as Dundalk won the league title on the last day of the season. Darren re-signed for the 2015 season and went on to make another 28 league appearances, scoring three times in the process, as Dundalk won a second successive Premier Division title. He also appeared in both Champions League ties, as the Lilywhites went out to BATE Borisov, and in the FAI Cup Final, in which they beat Cork City 1-0 after extratime.

2016 brought a third league title in a row with Darren scoring once in 24 league appearances. He also played in three of the club's twelve European games that year. Then in November 2016 Darren signed a pre-contract agreement with Shamrock Rovers ahead of their 2017 campaign.

In January 2018, Darren signed for Longford Town where he played for one season under Neal Fenn before joining Midlands rivals Athlone Town in January of 2019.
