John’s Biography

John's presence in the Cobh Ramblers side is a matter of some pride to the under age sections of the club as he was the first player to come completely through the ranks. John is a strong, left footed player who followed in his father's footsteps whose goal for Ramblers against Drogheda in 1975 gave the club their first win over League opposition in the FAI Cup.

John made his League of Ireland debut at home to Kildare county on 15th November 2003 and opened his goal scoring account against UCD at home in May 2003. He was part of the side that won the 2007 First Division title remained with the club until they were forced out of the league at the end of the 2008 season.

John went on to play with the Blarney United side that reached the third round of the 2009 FAI Cup, losing 2-0 to Sporting Fingal at O'Shea Park and in June 2010 John signed for Tommy Dunne at Cork City Foras Co-op. But his stay at Turner's Cross was brief and a few months later he was back at Cobh Ramblers, scoring in their 2011 FAI Cup defeat to Dublin side Cherry Orchard.

John also spent some time at Cobh Wanderers but in January 2013 he re-signed for Dave Hill at Cobh Ramblers following news that the club would rejoin the league after a four year absence. He made 21 league appearances for the Rams in 2013 as the club finished seventh in the First Division table.

In 2015 John turned out for MSL side Cobh Wanderers and was part of the team that competed in the 2015 FAI Cup.
