Ian Ryan

Ian began his career at Shamrock Rovers where he graduated up through the U21 team, making the breakthrough into the senior side in 2005. He made his competitive debut for the Hoops against Cork City at Turners Cross in May of '05, a season in which the club were relegated for the first time in their history. The following season, under Pat Scully, Ryan helped the Hoops to promotion back to the top flight at the first time of asking and was rewarded for his performances with a new contract for the 2007 Premier Division campaign.

However, with first team opportunities hard to come by, Ian was sent out on-loan to Longford Town in July 2007. Longford were relegated at the end of that year and Ian was cup-tied for their FAI Cup run which saw them beaten 1-0 in the final by Cork City. Days after the season's end he was released by Shamrock Rovers and signed for Dundalk in December 2007.

Ian made his competitive debut for the Lilywhites away to Shelbourne on 7 March 2008 and played a central role in the club lifting the First Division title at the end of the season. However, during the close season, manager John Gill was replaced by Sean Connor and Ian was among a reft of players who were released.

In February 2009 Ian signed for Drogheda United and made his debut for the Drogs against his former club, Dundalk, in a 3-0 at Oriel Park on 20 March 2009. He scored his first goal for the club in a 4-0 win over Galway United on 20 October, but Drogheda finished 9th that year and Ian left the club at the end of the season.

In February 2010 Ian signed for Shelbourne and made 32 league appearances for the Reds and scored three goals. The following year, under Alan Mathews, Ian made another 29 league appearances as Shelbourne won promotion to the Premier Division. Two seasons of Premier Division football followed before Shels suffered relegation at the end of 2013. In his four seasons at Tolka Park Ian made 102 league appearances and signed off with a goal against UCD in his final game on 25 October 2013.

2014 saw Ian on the move again, this time to UCD where he signed for manager Aaron Callaghan. He made his league debut for the Students against Bohemians at the Belfieid Bowl on 7 March 2014, going on to make 19 league appearances in a season that saw UCD relegated from the Premier Division.

In June 2015 it was announced that UCD and Ian had parted company by mutual consent having struggled with injury in the first half of the season culminating in just four appearances for the Students during the 2015 campaign.

Just one month later Ian retired from football due to a "dodgy foot".
