Paul’s Biography

Paul Shiels is an experienced central midfielder who has won promotion with four different clubs League of Ireland clubs; Monaghan United, Dublin City and Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk.

Paul joined his hometown club Monaghan United in 1992 and developed through the under age section and into the senior side. After six years at Gortakeegan he moved to Dermot Keely’s Dublin City at the beginning of the 2005 season and won promotion with the club at the first time of asking as the Vikings finished second in the league before defeating Shamrock Rovers in the play-off.

Dublin City folded midway through 2006 and Paul moved to Shamrock Rovers in July '06. The Hoops won the First Division crown just four months later and he remained with Pat Scully's Hoops for the following 2007 season, making only 10 league outings. In December 2007 Paul signed for John Gill at Dundalk and he made his competitive debut for the club away to Shelbourne on 7 March 2008. Paul made 28 league appearances in the 2008 season as Dundalk lifted the First Division title.

In February 2009 Paul moved on and signed for Drogheda United where he made a total of 33 appearances, scoring two goals but he spent just one season at United Park before signing for Dermot Keely at Shelbourne where he made 26 league appearances for the Reds in 2010. Paul was not retained at Tolka Park and left at the end of the 2010 season.

Paul was part of LSL side Swords Celtic's 2013/14 squad that reached the latter stages of the Leinster Senior Cup.
