Alan’s Biography

Alan previously played with Derry City, however, expectations following a €22,000 transfer from Galway United seemed to weigh heavily on the young Mayo forward's shoulders early in his career with Derry. Prolific for Galway in recent seasons, Murphy appeared to struggle to adapt to the pace of the Premier Division.

Alan re-signed with Galway from Derry City in January 2006 and, in his second spell at the club, he stayed for two seasons before being released at the end of 2007. In February 2008 he signed for Pat Scully at Shamrock Rovers. He spent just six months with the Hoops before returning to Galway in July 2008.

Alan was a regular with Galway for the rest of 2008 and was also a first team regular in 2009. However, he missed the entire 2010 season with a persistent knee injury, only returning to squad duties at the start of 2011, when he made 29 league appearances and scored five goals in what would prove to be the club's last season of league football.

When Galway United folded in the winter of 2011, Alan signed with Johnny Glynn at Mervue United for the start of the 2012 season. He made his debut for the club in a 4-3 defeat away to Finn Harps on 10 March and scored seven times in his 15 league appearances that year.

Alan Murphy kept playing his football in Galway by signing for the newly created Galway FC in January 2014. He was player/coach for the club due to an injury that had him miss the 2013 and 2014 seasons entirely.

In January 2018, Alan signed back with Galway United from West United. Following the dismissal of Shane Keegan in June, Murphy was named player-manager until the end of the season.

In February 2021, Anthony signed for LOI newcomers Treaty United.
