James’s Biography

James was a left-sided player who could play either in defence or midfield. He began his senior career at Home Farm where he played for three years between 1991 and 1994. The then joined UCD where he spent two seasons before leaving to sign for Derry City in August 1996.

In two seasons with the Candystripes he won the league in 1996/97 before moving to Shelbourne in the Summer of 1998 where he won a league and cup double in 2000.

After a spell with Dundalk he moved to Shamrock Rovers, where he played for two seasons. He then played with Bohemians before joining Drogheda United in December 2005. Two seasons followed at United Park where he won his 3rd League title in 2007. He left the Drogs at the end of 2007, signing up for a second stint at Shelbourne in 2008.

James retired from playing LOI football at the end of 2008 and embarked on a coaching career which started at Leinster Senior League side Mount Merrion FC. After three years with them he had a spell back at Home Farm before being appointed Assistant Manger at Bray Wanderers in 2019.

Two years at Bray were followed by another two year spell as assistant at Longford Town and in November 2022 he was appointed Manager at Wexford after the departure of Ian Ryan.
