Steven’s Biography

Stephen played youth football with Cherry Orchard before moving to English club Southampton. Without making the breakthrough to the first team, Steven returned to Ireland in 2002. He signed for Harry McCue at Drogheda United and made his debut on 22 November in a home defeat to Bohemians.

In six seasons at United Park Steven made 123 league appearances and won An FAI Cup winners medal in 2005, followed by a league title medal in 2007. He was also called into the Ireland under 21 squad and was voted Player of the Year by the Drogs fans in 2004. He also earned a place in the 2004 Team of the Season as selected by Eircom League managers.

In November 2007 Steven signed for Derry City and he played at the Brandywell through the 2008 and 2009 seasons, making 49 league appearances for the Candystripes. When the club were expelled from the league in the winter of '09 he moved south, signing with Pat Fenlon at Bohemians.

However, 2010 was a year in which injury blighted his progress and he made only four league appearances for the Gypsies. At the end of 2010, financial difficulties beset Bohemians and Steven became involved in a court action over unpaid wages. He then left the club to travel to Australia where he played for Dandenong Thunder in the Victoria Premier League.
