Stephen spent 2010 playing in Limerick FC's A Championship side before becoming the youngest ever player to score in the First Division on the final day of the 2010 season. He scored on his debut in the 77th minute of Limericks 5-1 away win against Athlone Town at the age of just 15 years and 359 days.
Stephen made just 6 league appearances in 2011 and in the club's First Division title winning season of 2012 he appeared 16 times in the league, with ten of those coming from the bench. In 2013, under new manager Stuart Taylor, Stephen's progress was curtailed by injury and he played just 3 Premier Division games. He left the club at the end of the 2013 season.
