Ger’s Biography
Ger developed in the underage system at Salthill Devon and represented Ireland at U15 and U17 levels, performing well at the 2008 European U17 Championships in Turkey. In June 2008 he signed for Premier Division Galway United but made just one appearance for the Tribesmen, in a League Cup win against his former club Salthill Devon.
At the start of 2010 Ger signed for Mervue United and made the goalkeepers position his own. He made his league debut for the club on the opening night of the season in a 1-1 draw with Limerick FC at Terryland Park and went on to make a total of 58 league and cup appearances over the next two seasons.
In January 2012 Ger moved outside the sphere of Galway football, signing for Premier Division side Dundalk under new manager Sean McCaffrey. But by July Ger had made just 1 league appearance, against UCD at Belfield on 22 June in which he retired inured after 28 minutes, and on 19 July he departed Oriel Park by mutual consent.
Ger's next move was to return home to Mervue United, signing for Johnny Glynn in August 2012. His first game back in Mervue colours was a 1-1 draw with Finn Harps on 31 August and he made league appearances by the end of the season.
In January 2013 it was confirmed that Ger Had signed for Shelbourne. He made 9 league appearances for the Reds in what was a difficult season for the club and he was released by new manager Johnny McDonnell on 7 July 2013. He signed for Mervue United until the end of the season in September 2013.
Ger signed for the newly formed Galway FC for the 2014 season and made 6 league appearances over the course of the campaign, in which he kept two clean sheets and conceded five goals, as Galway won the play-offs and were promoted to the Premier Division.
Ger stayed with Galway for their maiden Premier Division season in 2015 and went on to make 9 league appearances, keeping one clean sheet, as Galway finished tenth in the Premier Division. He retired from football in February 2016.
