Matthijs’s Biography
Matthijs is a centre-back who came through the famous youth system at Ajax in the Netherlands. He was with the Ajax academy from the age of 10 and made his first professional appearance with Jong Ajax, the club's development team that play in the lower tiers of the Dutch league system.
Just six weeks after his debut for Jong Ajax Matthijs scored on his debut for Ajax's first team against Willem II. He went on to become the team captain and to play with Ajax for three seasons until July 2019 when he left to sign for Italian side Juventus.
Matthijs stayed at Juve for three years, leving in July 2022 to join German side Bayern Munich.
He made his senior international debut for the Netherlands against Bulgaria on 25 March 2017.
