Maximilian played for Red Bull Salzburg's youth sides before moving to SV Reid in July 2010. He stayed at the club for three years before moving to SV Grodig, who he had previously spent the 2010/11 season with on loan. SV Grodig finished third in Maximilian's first season at the club and qualified for the Europa League for the 2014/15 camapign.

Maximilian played in all four Euro matches before Zimbru Chisincu elimitanted the Austrian club in the third round of qualifiers. SV Grodig also finished in eighth spot in the ten team Austrian Bundesliga. Maximilian moved abroad to Bulgarian side Levski Sofia in July 2015. Max spent one season in Bulgaria during which he made 22 league appearances as the club finished second in the league. Max left the Sofia at the end of the season and moved to Ireland where he signed for Derry City in August 2016.

Max made his debut for Derry against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds on 27 August 2016 and he made 5 league appearances for Candystripes over the final months of the season.
