Ian is a goalkeeper who was with Cherry Orchard before moving to Leeds United on scholarship in 2013. He spent two years at the Yorkshire club before returning to Ireland in September 2015 to sign for Rathcoole Boys. In January 2016, Ian signed for Longford Town ahead of the 2016 season.

Ian made his league debut for Longford when he replaced first coach 'keeper Paul Skinner in the 37th minute against Shamrock Rovers on 7 May 2016. He played the next two games and totalled 3 league appearances that season. He left Longford at the end of 2016 and signed for Leinster Senior League side Firhouse Clover in December of that year.
