Dean played underage football for local Waterford side Villa FC before joining Waterford United's u19 squad for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He made his league debut for the Blues away to Cabinteely on 22 July 2016 and made 10 league appearances over the latter half of that season. In January 2017 Dean was named as one of Pat Fenlon's early signings at the rebranded Waterford FC.
In November 2017, Dean re-signed with the Premier Division bound Waterford FC. In December 2018, Dean re-signed with Waterford for the 2019 season.
