Sean was signed from St Kevin's Boys for Shamrock Rovers' U19 squad for the 2013/14 season and he first played for the seniors as a substitute in the friendly game against Birmingham City in the Summer of 2013. One week later he started against Dundalk in a Leinster Senior Cup tie and he made two more LSC starts that year including in the final against St Pats which Rovers won 1-0.

In 2014 Sean was named in the squad for Shamrock Rovers B as the Hoops' reserve side entered the First Division. He went on to make 16 league appearances for the B team and was also called up to the Premier Division side, where he played in 4 league games, scoring in a 2-1 win over Bray Wanderers. At the end of 2014 he signed a deal with the senior squad for the 2015 season.

Sean joined First Division side Shelbourne on loan for the 2015 season where he went on to make 25 league appearances for the Reds, scoring twice in wins over UCD and Athlone Town, as the club finished fourth in the First Division. In 2016 Sean returned to Tallaght and he appeared in 15 league games for the Hoops, scoring twice. He also played in both of the club's Europa League matches against Finnish side, RoPS.

Rovers then sent Sean on loan to Waterford until the end of the season in the July 2017 transfer window.

In January 2018, Sean signed for Bray Wanderers for the 2018 season. Sean re-signed with Bray again for 2019.
